Here is a selection of restaurants we recommend within a 15 km (9-mile) radius of La Closerie de Fronsac. All offer dinner menus (starter, main course and dessert) priced at €50 or less. For each restaurant, we highlight its style of cuisine, atmosphere and main features, such as scenic views, terraces, wine selection or unique setting.

We strongly recommend booking your table in advance, especially during weekends and the high season.

FRONSAC/CANON FRONSAC

 

 

Le Saillans – Saillans (33141)

 

A refined French gastronomic restaurant located in one of the charming villages of the Canon-Fronsac appellation. Enjoy the beautiful terrace overlooking the village square and an excellent selection of regional wines.

Opening hours: Thursday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime, and Monday lunchtime.

Weekday lunch (Thursday, Friday & Monday) :

  • €20 – Starter, main course and dessert.

  • €26 – Starter, main course, dessert, one glass of wine and coffee.

Dinner : 

  • €44 – Three-course menu.

  • €58 – Premium three-course menu.

Le Bistro Pharell – Fronsac (33126)

 

Open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for lunch and dinner. Open Sunday and Tuesday for lunch only. Closed on Wednesdays.

A welcoming bistro offering a unique fusion of South-West French and West African cuisine. Specialities include grilled squid, Chicken Mafé, Chicken Yaba, seared tuna, trout ceviche with coconut milk and duck breast. Pleasant terrace during the summer and vegetarian options available.

A bistronomic restaurant featuring seasonal dishes prepared with fresh local produce. The terrace offers one of the finest panoramic views over the Fronsac hilltop.

Open Wednesday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime.

Seasonal French cuisine served in a contemporary riverside setting overlooking the Dordogne River. The restaurant features a large glass façade opening onto the river, a relaxed guinguette-style outdoor area and a pétanque court.

Dinner & weekends (à la carte) :

    • Examples: salmon gravlax, cod ceviche, burrata.

La Guinguette de la Vielle Chapelle – Lugon-et-L’Île-du-Carney (33240)

 

A lively riverside guinguette on the banks of the Dordogne.

Open Friday evenings only, from June to September. Live music every Friday featuring Jazz, Bossa Nova, Soul and other styles.

Food includes:

Located next to the Maison des Vins de Fronsac. Open Friday evenings only, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Enjoy locally brewed organic craft beers alongside local wines. Simple food is also available :

A pleasant stop before or after exploring the Fronsac vineyards.

Le Bistrot Maritime – Libourne (33500)

 

Open every day. Late dining is possible, with the last seating around 10:00–10:30 pm.

A popular French bistro located on the banks of the Dordogne River. Classic French cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients in a relaxed atmosphere. Vegetarian option available.

Dinner (à la carte) :

    • Examples: Marennes oysters, homemade foie gras, baked Camembert.

Chez Rémi – Libourne (33500)

 

Open Tuesday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime. A traditional South-West French restaurant serving generous, authentic regional cuisine, as well as a few classic French specialities. Portions are very generous and a main course alone is often enough for a full meal.

Specialities include :

  • Duck breast

  • Veal sweetbreads

  • Calf's head

  • Veal kidneys

  • Veal Axoa (Basque-style veal stew)

  • Beef cheeks slow-cooked in red wine

Open every day. Good place in Libourne to enjoy an aperitif while watching the sunset over the Dordogne River.

The menu includes :

Open Tuesday lunchtime to Saturday evening. A friendly wine bar offering an excellent selection of local wines together with a small menu of sharing plates and classic French dishes.The kitchen usually serves until 10:30 pm, making it a great option for a relaxed late dinner or an evening wine tasting. Ideal for guests looking for a casual atmosphere while discovering Bordeaux wines.

L'Envers du Décor

One of Saint-Émilion's historic restaurants, located in the heart of the medieval village.

Renowned for its exceptional wine list and its charming shaded courtyard, it belongs to the same owners as the Michelin-starred La Table de Pavie. Although not our favourite value-for-money option in Saint-Émilion, it remains an excellent restaurant for those wishing to experience one of the village's iconic addresses. Open every day.

La Terrasse Rouge

 

A contemporary restaurant designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, located at Château La Dominique, overlooking the spectacular winery of Château Cheval Blanc. While it is not our favourite in terms of value for money, the terrace offers one of the finest vineyard views in the region.
