These two confidential terroirs offer lovers of nature and heritage a subtle blend of preserved wine-growing landscapes , authentic villages and exceptional panoramic views. Steeped in history, these lands have seen Romans, kings and emperors pass through. The topography is unique : gentle ridges, secret valleys, hillsides bathed in light. From La Closerie de Fronsac , a multitude of walks and hikes are possible, suitable for all paces. Here are our favorite itineraries, tested and approved.

The most beautiful walks around La Closerie de Fronsac


Short loop : Saint-Aignan, Château Tasta and Mazeris (approximately 30/45 minutes)


Departure : La Closerie de Fronsac


Start gently with this pleasant stroll that takes you to the village of Saint-Aignan, a true hidden gem. You will discover its sober and moving Romanesque church, witness to nearly a thousand years of history. The village, with its discreet alleys lined with stone houses, invites you to stroll. Continue to Château Tasta, surrounded by its vines, then join Mazeris and its Châteaux before returning to La Closerie de Fronsac.

Mazeris – Pey-Labrie – Saint-Michel de Fronsac Ridge Loop (1h30)


From Mazeris, climb gently up to Pey-Labrie, one of the town's highlights. Up there, you reach the crest of Saint-Michel de Fronsac, an absolutely magical place: the panoramas open onto the meanders of the Dordogne, Libourne and as far as the hills of Saint-Émilion on a clear day. Continue to Belloy, then go back down via Renouil, passing the old Lariveau mill, a vestige of the region's agricultural past.

Great loop of La Rivière : Château La Rivière and return via Saint-Michel (approximately 2.5 hours)


Departure : La Closerie de Fronsac


For lovers of beautiful discoveries, this hike will take you to one of the jewels of Fronsadais: Château La Rivière . After crossing Saint-Aignan, head towards Château La Rivière.

The majestic castle, partly dating from the 16th century and partly built by Viollet-le-Duc, dominates the valley and hides incredible underground cellars beneath its foundations: more than 8 hectares of galleries dug into the rock, used for centuries for wine aging. (Visits possible depending on the schedule.) The return is via another ridge of Saint-Michel de Fronsac, offering superb views at sunset.

  • Level : moderate to strenuous (some steep slopes)


Fronsac Loop : Belloy, Château La Dauphine and the Mound of Fronsac (2 hours)


Departure : La Closerie de Fronsac


This walk is a concentration of history and landscapes: it begins in Belloy, crosses the vineyards to the famous Château La Dauphine, jewel of the Fronsac appellation with its 18th century neo-classical architecture.

Continue to the Romanesque church of Fronsac, a vestige of the 12th century, before climbing to the top of the Tertre de Fronsac which offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the entire region !

The return is gentle through the vineyards to the Pontus estate, where the beauty of the landscape is omnipresent — here, you are always in the middle of the vines !

Saillans Loop : Château Plain Point and Château de Carles (3 hours)


Departure : La Closerie de Fronsac


For more experienced walkers, this large loop to Saillans will delight you. Cross the vineyards to reach the Château Plain Point, recently renovated with bold contemporary architecture, a true dialogue between tradition and modernity.

The village of Saillans is charming: its Romanesque church, its hosanna cross and its vine-lined streets descending towards the Isle river make up a perfect picture.

On the way back, stop at the Château de Carles, an illustrious estate that has hosted

great men, writers and thinkers of the region.

  • Level : sustained (long hike but little elevation gain)
